Australian Internet pioneer, Sean Howard, applauds industry
Spam Campaign and gives Australian Internet users a free month of spamtrap
16 April 2003
messagecare, an Australian company that provides Internet users
with spam protection through its filtering service, spamtrap,
welcomed the launch of the Internet Industry Association"s (IIA)
campaign against spam, and the release by Minister Alston of the
Federal Government's Final Spam Report.
"Email is the killer application of the Internet. We cannot
let spam be the death of email. Let's together do something
about it," said Sean Howard, founder of OzEmail and messagecare
Chairman, at the launch of the IIA campaign
in Melbourne today. "I commend the Australian Internet Industry
for taking a lead in the fight against spam – it is up to us to
protect our borders and ensure the integrity of email is maintained
for all Australians."
"I am pleased the Federal Government is taking the spam scourge
seriously. Spam is a growing menace requiring a combination of
regulatory, technical and user actions to be effectively managed. We
must punish the spammers and empower the users," commented Mr
Howard on the release of NOIE's Final Report on Spam. "We must
take defensive steps to protect our young from harmful and offensive
pornographic email that is becoming a daily part of our Internet
experience."
"For the next month, let's send a message – Australia is not
going tolerate the invasion of our lives online," said Mr
Howard. "messagecare fully endorses this
campaign and we are delighted to offer our spamtrap service to
all users wanting to be beat spam."
